A good product page helps a customer decide whether an item is right for them before they contact you or pay. For a Kenyan online store, the essentials include accurate product details, prices in KES, clear delivery options and a payment flow the buyer can understand. Use this checklist when adding a product or reviewing a page that attracts visits but few enquiries.
Photograph the actual product
Show the item you will deliver, including the selected colour or variation. Use a clear main photograph, another angle and a close-up of a detail that matters: stitching on footwear, ports on electronics or fabric texture on clothing. Include a scale reference when dimensions are hard to judge.
Keep lighting and backgrounds consistent across your catalogue, while preserving the true colour and shape. Do not use generated or stock images as evidence of the item in stock. Compress images into a suitable web format and describe visible details in alt text without inserting a list of search keywords.
Answer size, quantity and suitability questions
Write a description from verified product information. Include measurements and units, materials, compatible devices where relevant and what comes in the box. Explain a sizing method or link to a size chart when a label such as medium is not enough.
Wholesale pages need extra precision: state whether the price is per pair, pack or carton, the minimum order and how size allocations are confirmed. If a supplier says only “in stock”, do not invent a stock quantity. See writing useful product descriptions for a simple structure.
- Product name and meaningful variation choices.
- Included items and any required accessories.
- Verified availability and realistic dispatch expectations.
- An explicit price unit for packs or bundles.
Explain delivery before the customer commits
Show available pickup and delivery options, the areas served and how fees are calculated. Distinguish dispatch time from delivery time: handing a parcel to a courier tomorrow does not mean the buyer receives it tomorrow. If a fee must be quoted, say so before the order is submitted.
Make returns and exchange terms easy to find from the product page. Customers should understand what happens when a size does not fit or an item arrives damaged. Keep the published terms consistent with the process your team can actually follow.
Set clear payment expectations
Explain supported payment methods and when an order becomes confirmed. If M-Pesa is integrated, show a pending state while the customer completes the prompt, and confirm payment only after your system receives and validates the result. A manual WhatsApp enquiry should say that a person will confirm availability and payment instructions.
Do not advertise a payment integration as live before it has been implemented and tested. Test successful payment, cancellation, timeout and retry paths before inviting customers to use checkout. Our STK push guide explains the basic transaction flow.
Help customers and search engines find the page
Give each product a stable URL, a unique title and a description with details that distinguish it from other products. Link to it from a relevant category and show related items where they genuinely help a buyer compare. Avoid copying the same paragraph across hundreds of products.
Product structured data should reflect the visible product, price and availability. Do not add ratings or reviews that customers cannot see and you cannot substantiate. Use Google’s product documentation when implementing it, and validate the public page after deployment. For store architecture and checkout support, explore our ecommerce development service.
Questions people ask
Can I use stock photos for my product catalogue?
Use accurate photographs of the products being sold. Stock photos can illustrate editorial articles, but they should not imply a different item, finish or variation will be delivered.
What should I check before publishing a wholesale product?
Confirm the unit price, pack quantity, minimum order, size or colour assortment, availability and how delivery is quoted. Make any details awaiting confirmation explicit.
